DIY Kitchen Makeover

DIY

Phase 1: Big Dreams, Small Budget

We purchased our first apartment in May of 2021! (Yay!) But the kitchen leaves a lot to be desired. (*Sigh*) The best way to give our space a refresh right now is with some DIY fixes to hold us over for a few years. Our cabinets are MDF, which is definitely not as nice as wood and they are going to be a pain to paint. I’m going to do another blog post about the details of that project. But for now…

This is my plan:

I can get enough of the shape and color of this KRAUS kitchen faucet in brushed brass. I get excited every time I use it. The pull-down feature makes my heart race like the middle-school girl being asked to slow dance for the first time. (Seriously, though.) The brushed brass color really brightens up my blue pearl granite countertops. I want to change them out eventually, but for now, I like them so much more with this splash of gold.

Since this is not my ‘forever kitchen’ I’m going a little funkier and bolder than I would with a high-priced renovation. Acrylic handles have been on my wishlist for a long time, so I’m pumped to give these a try.

As for the backsplash, I am in no mood to tile over the stone because that will mess with the depth of all the outlets. Also, the tile would be more expensive than a peel-and-stick product. I spent months researching self-adhesive options and I can’t wait to see what Chasing Paper’s Traditional Basket Flooring (that doubles as a backsplash material) will look like!
